Here’s where Jacob made his transition from Spud to Jacob.

our little baby boy, jacob friday gallagher, was born on 4/2/03 at overlake hospital. he came out via c-section at 10:11 a.m and has driven his parents crazy with love and adoration since the first second he showed us his face. here’s how it happened:

tues, 4/1 – jill’s ultrasound showed a large, healthy baby with a 103 mm head diameter. the head measurement, combined with some other factors (jill’s bp was elevated, she was getting pretty swollen, and she threatened to cry in the doc’s office) led the doc to decide that an inducement was in order. yay! bill and jill headed home to anxiously await for the call from overlake.
the call came at around 7:30 p.m. and by 8:30 we were at the hospital, strapped in to the monitors, and ready to start getting ‘spud’ out. dr. lawler broke jill’s water at 10:00 p.m and started the pitocin drip (to induce labor) at 11:00. at around midnite (after we were clear of having an april fool’s day baby) jill got the wonderful epidural, then went to sleep for a few hours.
wedn, 4/2 – fully dilated by 7:00 a.m., jill started pushing. after a valiant 2 hour effort (and 4 vacuum extraction attempts), the doc decided that a c-section was in order. so off to the surgical suite we went and voila! our beautiful son was born.
jake gave a good cry as soon as he came out, then peed all over the doctor. after getting cleaned up he got very quiet and just sort of hung out, looking around at his new surroundings. dr. lawler informed the new parents that their baby’s head circumference of 15 1/4 inches was the largest head he’s ever delivered (NOT the record jill wanted to break!).
jake is a wonderful baby who’s getting used to lots of pictures. enjoy!
