Why I’m going back to XP
Years and years of MSFT never having gotten backup right has made Symantec and plenty of other backup providers very rich. In Vista it’s no different. I attempted to backup my system today, and got this dialog. I’ve searched the web and all the online help for and none of that has helped.
I _think_ the error has to do with Vista having dropped my boot partition onto my E drive, but my nominal C drive is where the rest of the OS lives. Apparently the “Complete PC Backup” forgot about this possible config and it just flat out fails… with nary a diagnostic message to help isolate the error.
Nor is there a way to specify multiple drives in the backup operation, so I can’t work around it.
I’m very disappointed, though I can’t say that I’m surprised.
MS has never been able to get backup right (and even when backup is successful, try a restore to experience the full effect).
